Distributed Temperature Sensors (DTS) are fiber optic based sensors which measures temperature along the entire length of the fiber as a continuous profile. They mainly employ Raman scattering to sense the temperature. OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometry) and OFDR (Optical Frequency Domain Reflectometry) are two major technologies to measure Raman effect along the fiber.
The DTS technology can measure temperature with a sub-degree resolution within few tens of kilometers with sub-meter spatial resolution.
Following are some common applications for DTS technology:
- Pipeline monitoring for leakage
- Oil well monitoring
- Refinery Efficiency Sensing
- Power Line Monitoring
