Fiber optic based Distributed Strain Systems are employed to detect acoustic frequency strain signals along a fiber optic sensor over large distances. With suitable analysis software they can be used in applications like:
- Pipeline monitoring
- Site perimeter protection
- Border protection
- Oil well surveying
- Bridges & Dams monitoring system
The distributed strain systems mainly employ backscattered light from Rayleigh or Brillouin phenomenon to measure spatially distributed changes in strain along the fiber optic. Some systems are capable to measure both strain and temperature.
