Non-contact fiber optic displacement sensors can be used to measure the surface movement with nanometer accuracy. The reflectance compensated type sensor is the typical fiber optic displacement sensor used to measure displacement or vibration of an object. The sensor uses a bundle of fiber optics to transmit light and two separate bundles to receive the reflected light. The intensity ratio of two reflected rays are used to measure displacement. The measured distance calculated is independent of reflectivity of the target surface and there is no need to adjust the reflectance of the target.
Fiber optic displacement sensors are used in:
- Cryogenic Environments
- High Electrical Fields
- High Magnetic fields
- High Temperature Environments
- High Pressures Environments
- Vacuum
